Birdie's Lullaby
All through the night,
When wee birdies are sleeping in the sky,
Old mother moon sings in sweet tones to her
Twinkling star babies a soothing and beautiful tune
Lullaby lullaby twinkling star babies into your cloud beds creep
Fuzzy bird babies now dream in their cradles lullaby lullaby sleep
Why does the mother moon sing until morning?
Won't her star babies obey?
Yes, but how many she sings into slumber,
No wonder it takes her til day.
This was my mother's favorite song when she was a little girl.
Duet for soprano and contralto, "Wir eilen mit schwachen, doch emsigen Schritten", from J. S. Bach's Cantata No 78, "Jesu, der du meine Seele",
