In November, 1993, the life the Marquesa changed forever...
She began taking the drug Prozac.
In the first week, she fired her lawyer and the court mediator.
She gained custody of her son.
She vacuumed each room in the house twice a day,
got new contact lenses, a patch, reading glasses, hard lenses,
soft lenses and disposable lenses, just in case.
It was before midnight,
so after dusting, folding, and straightening,
she finally realized that she had a problem.
She had a job!...
And she'd had it for ten years!
Her son's teacher wanted to put him in the gifted program.
So...she could quit worrying about paying the Montessori tuition.
And she could go back to solving the art problem Ehrenberg
had given her in 1990:
"How will you cross the border?"
She began to consider
some important questions for a Sicilian,
such as
"What is race?"
She rememberd the Sicilian rap lyrics, Siciliano, Africano."
But then on Prozac, she looked at the question differently.
She thought: "Race is what happens as one fo Prozac's side
effects, mind-racing, along with hallucinations in my case."
