Michael Spector, originally from the Los Angeles area, received his Single Subject-Music Teaching Credential (Lifetime) in 1979 from California State University Sonoma, and has been teaching elementary school music (vocal, general, and instrumental) in California public schools for most of the time since, including in Sonoma County (Santa Rosa City Schools, Twin Hills, and Wright school districts), Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (1986-2000), El Segundo Unified School District, and in LAUSD since 2002. He also holds other California teaching credentials, including Standard Elementary, CLAD, and Single Subject-German.

In 1983 he was the recipient of a Fulbright grant to study music education at the Orff Institute of Music and Movement Education in Salzburg Austria. He remained there until 1986, also teaching English in Austrian high schools.

He plays woodwinds (saxophone, flute, clarinet), as well as guitar, piano, percussion, and voice. He also likes to dance. He can speak, read, and write Spanish and German, as well as English. He currently teaches general and vocal music at five elementary schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
