The Fallbrook Historical Society supports Fallbrook as the community has supported us. We were born in 1978, out of book-writing efforts of Library Friends, and the Chamber's Bicentennial Committee.
We now have a cluster of museums on the south edge of town (South Mission Road), up the hill to the west on RockyCrest Road:
A part of our complex houses our antique Ford cars, a Model T and a Model A, a tool collection, and U.S.395 history. In this section we also have a meeting room.
In our Fallbrook history museum we have displays showing the names and locations of our first people: Luiseno Indians, Spanish soldiers and settlers, Mexican ranchers, and American homesteaders. We have exhibits on early businesses, including our two railroads. Geno Somacal's recreations of twelve buildings from the late 1800s are on display. We document the development of groves and fruit production, from olives and apricots to lemons and avocados.
Our all-volunteer organization provides tours for school children, another destination for tourists, and photo assistance for businesses seeking historical identity.
We are the keepers of Fallbrook's images, and we help each visitor build his own image of himself and his ancestors.
We are open every Thursday from 1 to 5, and every Sunday from 1 to 4, or call (760) 723-4125 (museum), (760) 728-7964 (for President, Don Rivers), (760) 728-7518 (for tour arranger, Marjorie Yackey), (760) 728-1333 (for mineral museum, Garth Bricker) and arrange a time.
