My therapeutic work is influenced by approaches that focus upon the relationship between therapist and client and believe in the power of relationships to heal. These are therapeutic approaches with roots in depth psychology and they focus upon compassion, empathy, respect, imagination, and insight. My emphasis is not so much upon the past, as how to use the past in order to move forward to a more fulfilling future.

In my experience, when people review their past in the context of the relationships and issues that are important to them in the present, powerful patterns often emerge. By identifying and re-experiencing these patterns through the safety of a compassionate and nourishing therapeutic relationship it becomes possible to move toward a future of positive growth and change.

However, I also believe that my clients require a full range of the tools and strategies provided by a variety of therapeutic schools, so I remain flexible and respectful to intentions of those who are seeking my support and the nature of the problems they wish to address. Through collaborative exploration, together we develop a unique relationship that focuses upon the issues hindering their empowerment, fulfillment, positive transformation, and develop a workable plan to facilitate change. Therapy is one of the few rituals we still have to acknowledge and celebrate significant rites of passage.

The therapeutic relationship is unique due to the mindfulness we bring to the relationship and, through this relationship, we explore and reflect upon other significant relationships in our lives. I believe that it is through these relationships that we suffer, grow, and enrich our humanity.

Whether the problem you’re struggling with is a relationship, a career, a medical issue, spiritual issues, or a creative issue, if it isn’t significantly impacting your life, and causing you undue stress, you wouldn’t be considering seeking help. It takes courage and strength to reach out to another human being to seek help, which is already a sign of health.
